Welcome to the delightful world of Apple Danishes—an ideal treat to celebrate the arrival of apple season! With their flaky pastry, luscious apple filling, crumbly topping, and a light glaze, these pastries are simply irresistible.

Hello everyone! It’s Melanie from Garnish & Glaze here again with another scrumptious apple recipe: Apple Danish! Who can resist a sweet pastry? This one is truly exceptional!

Can you believe it’s back-to-school time already? While I’m sad to see summer fade away, I do enjoy settling back into a routine and savoring the flavors of fall. Apples are among my favorite fruits; they make for an excellent snack and shine in various dishes like Apple and Spinach Pork Chops or Spiced Apple Cupcakes topped with Caramel Frosting.

How to Create Your Own Apple Danish:

Step 1: Prepare the Apple Filling Making the apple filling is incredibly easy! Simply combine butter, sugar, cinnamon, and apples in a pan. Cook this mixture for about 8 minutes until it thickens into a syrupy sauce and the apples become tender. Allow it to cool while you work on other components of your danish.

Step 2: Add Crumb Topping You can never go wrong with crumb topping! Initially made without it once, I’ve since added this delightful layer that elevates the dish significantly. Just mix together four simple ingredients for this topping—it’s worth washing an extra bowl!

Step 3: Assemble Your Danish The base is made from puff pastry—using frozen sheets makes this process effortless. After thawing for about 40 minutes, roll out your dough into squares before cutting them into strips. Twist these strips together into beautiful spirals while pressing down in the center to create space for your apple filling. Brush each danish with an egg wash so they bake up golden brown before sprinkling on that delicious crumb topping.

Optional Glaze While optional, adding a glaze enhances both flavor and presentation—it consists of just three ingredients that kids will love licking off any leftover bowl!

Apple Danishes taste best when warm but if you manage not to devour them all at once (which is quite challenging!), they remain delightful even on day two!

Ingredients:

For Crumb Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup flour

For Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

For Pastry Base:

  • One package puff pastry dough (contains two sheets)

For Apple Filling:

In a medium saucepan over medium heat combine butter, sugar, water, cornstarch along with spices (cinnamon & nutmeg) plus salt until melted; bring mixture to boil stirring frequently then add chopped apples cooking until tender (about five minutes). Remove from heat allowing cooling time.

Assembling Instructions:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) lining two baking sheets with parchment paper. Unfold one thawed puff pastry sheet at a time rolling out each square approximately 10×10 inches, cutting evenly into twelve strips. Join pairs by overlapping half an inch then twist ribbons snailing around themselves pressing ends firmly onto base. Place six formed danishes per lined sheet creating wells filled generously using cooled apple mixture. Combine egg & water brushing over pastries followed by generous sprinkling of crumb topping before baking 16–18 minutes or until edges turn golden brown. Allow cooling briefly prior glazing if desired!
